MCU: Location Scout | Midtown High School

by Jovial Jay

With Spider-Man: Far From Home coming out next week, it’s time for Peter Parker to return to Midtown High School.

LOCATION: Midtown High School for Science & Technology – Exteriors (Franklin K. Lane Educational Campus, 999 Jamaica Ave, Brooklyn, NY) & Interiors (Grady High School, 929 Charles Allen Dr NE, Atlanta, GA)
SHOW: Spider-Man: Homecoming

Peter Parker’s high school, which dates back to the first appearance of Spider-Man in Amazing Fantasy #15, has become a staple of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well. This special science and technology high school serves as the backdrop for Peter and his friends adolescent adventures. The school, in Spider-Man: Homecoming, is actually played by two different schools hundreds of miles apart.

Midtown High School Midtown High SchoolThe exterior of the school, is the iconic looking Franklin K. Lane Educational Campus in Brooklyn. It’s near the elevated J Nassau Street Local line and resembles many images seen in the classic Stan Lee and Steve Ditko comics. The fact that the production chose to use many New York City locations for the film (as well as locations in Atlanta) really cements the fact that Peter Parker, and Spider-Man, and his world is fully entrenched in the cityscape that he’s famous for being part of.

Midtown High School Midtown High SchoolServing as the interiors for Midtown High is Grady High School in Atlanta. This decision seems reasonable, as the films homebase and studio location was the Pinewood Atlanta Studios outside Atlanta. Scenes in the hallways, classrooms, and cafeteria were all able to be filmed during the summer of 2016 while the school was on summer break. The distinctive lockers and floor pattern of the school are readily evident in the film, but much of the wall murals and other decorations were created by the set decorators for the production.

It remains to be seen how much Midtown High School will be seen in Spider-Man: Far From Home, obviously due to the travel undertaken by the students, but there should be at least one shot of the iconic location that continues Peter’s adventures in New York City.
