Warp Trails: Lower Decks #2-3 We’ll Always Have Tom Paris

by Warp Trails

Tendi and Mariner set out on a girl’s trip, Rutherford is obsessed with the return of Lt. Shaxs, and Boimler battles for recognition from the Cerritos.

Lower Decks returns with a story that incorporates three separate story lines. Tendi is struggling to get ahead and earn a promotion, and so when Dr. T’ana sends her on an errand, she jumps at the chance. Things start to go south when she invites Mariner to join her for a girls’ trip. Meanwhile, Rutherford is shocked when he sees Lt. Shaxs, who should be dead, in the crew mess hall. And finally, Boimler may be back on the Cerritos, but the Cerritos apparently holds a grudge and does not recognize any of his access codes. This creates a problem when Lt. Tom Paris, from the U.S.S. Voyager pays a visit, and Boimler wants him to sign his commemorative plate.

Jay Shepard from Jedi Journals, Scarlet Velocity, Superhero Suite, and Enjoy Stuff joins us to discuss episode three of season two of Lower Decks, “We’ll Always Have Tom Paris.” On this episode, we discuss:

  • Boimler’s desperate attempt to get the ship computer to recognize him again,
  • Rutherford’s obsession with finding out how Lt. Shaxs survived his apparent death,
  • Mariner and Tendi departing for a girl’s trip to retrieve a family heirloom for Dr. T’ana, and
  • The other Star Trek references, tropes, and Easter eggs present in the episode.
