The USS Discovery reunites with Michael Burnham and then heads to Earth in pursuit of a clue as to what happened during the Burn.
After a year on her own (with Booker and acting as a courier), Michael Burnham has reunited with Saru and the crew of the USS Discovery. There are a few issues to settle, and chief among them is who is going to be the new captain of the ship. Once that is settled, Discovery needs to find what remains of Starfleet and discover what caused the Burn. Michael has a lead – an old transmission from a Starfleet admiral on Earth. Therefore, they decide to head to Earth using Discovery’s spore drive. However, they do not get the welcome they were expecting.
