Star Wars Rebels Season Four: First-Look Trailer Marks the Beginning of the End

by Jason Flatt

The End is Only Just Beginning for Star Wars Rebels.

Season four of Star Wars Rebels has begun its hype cycle with an emotional new Rebels season four trailer. Officially announced as the final season of the beloved cartoon, Rebels may be coming to an end, but the Rebellion is only just beginning.

The new trailer is edited by Kevin Yost and beautifully narrated by Vanessa Marshall, the voice of Hera Syndulla. It begins with her giving a retrospective on each of the characters of her Ghost Crew. The narrative tone is that of a story Hera is telling, in the aftermath of an incredible tragedy. Hera describes how she led into battle “a boy who was lost, and a girl who was broken,” as well as “ survivor (Zeb),” “a war veteran (Chopper),” and “a fallen knight (Kanan).” There is a sense of imminent sacrifice in her voice as clips from seasons past roll. And then, season four hits and brings a ton of new footage. There are new characters revealed, familiar favorites returning, and teases for incredible character developments.

Big Cool Wolf Rebels

New Characters, Old Favorites, and More of What We Love

In the “new” department, fans of the “Thrawn Trilogy” can look forward to the introduction of Rukh, Thrawn’s personal bodyguard and assassin. This fan-favorite character is set to be voiced by fan-favorite Star Wars acting alum Warwick Davis. Also, while not new to the series by any means, the season four trailer gave viewers their first look at former-agent-now-rebel Kallus. Kallus has enjoyed increasing love from fans of the show, especially since his reveal as Fulcrum, and his joining the Rebels crew on the side of good is sure to excite. Clone Wars alum Bo Katan, a troublesome Mandolorian, appears set to make her Rebels debut as well.

Rukh RebelsA brief, distant shot of the rebels arriving at Yavin IV, the secret base of operations from the original Star Wars in 1977 was a potential highlight. It serves as a nice tie-in to the final moments of the season three finale. There are more TIE Defenders, more Mandolorians and Darksaber action, and some menacing death troopers. The trailer also not only introduces X-Wings to Rebels at long last, but even shows off a U-Wing, the vehicle new to Star Wars as of Rogue One. There is also a really cool, really big wolf that appears more than once.

On the character front, season four is sure to dial up the heat in the relationship between Hera and Kanan. Forrest Whitaker is set to return as Saw Gerrera. He appears much like he did in Rogue One, more grayed and stressed than when he was last seen on Geonosis in Season Three. Fans of Mandalorian lore will be satisfied this season as well with numerous shots of Sabine in battle with other Mandos, her mother, and Ezra.
