RetroZap at RICC: Millie Bobby Brown

by RetroZap Staff

One of the highlights of Rhode Island Comic Con 2016 was this refreshing and exciting panel with the star of Stanger Things, Millie Bobby Brown!

Typically, people don’t get their hopes high for a panel featuring younger kids. Sometimes it can be hard to get answers that go under the surface, and often these features can feel a bit forced and over-prepped. Everyone leaves feeling a little awkward, a little uncomfortable, and maybe a little less for the entire ordeal. Maybe a conversation about the health of child actors ensues afterward. However, this time, things were different, because we were not dealing with a typical actor: we came to see Millie Bobby Brown.

The actress who plays Eleven in Stranger Things has risen to the heights of stardom in 2016. At only 12 years old, Millie Bobby Brown has the composure, confidence, and grace of a grown adult, yet the unmistakable energy and vibrancy of youth. What ensued was a lively, humorous and interesting conversation between she and Tami Stronach, who played Moonchild, the Childlike Empress in The Neverending Story.

In between attempts at a mannequin challenge with the audience and her little sister hanging on for attention in her lap, Millie flat out commanded the stage. With a personality big enough to fill the room and then some, she then discussed some of her aspirations. Some of which included her desire to act in The Walking Dead and Star Wars, as well as a penchant for directing.

Finally, instead of the usual post-panel grumblings, the buzz on the floor was that attendees felt fortunate to have seen this budding star so early in her career–there is certainly a lifetime of great roles to come.
