Podcast Stardust #72: The Rise of Artoo

by Podcast Stardust

In this fully armed and operational episode, we celebrate the greatest droid in all the galaxy: R2-D2. We discuss what Artoo means to the Star Wars saga.

Star Wars is full of droids. From K-2SO and L3-37 to Chopper, BB-8, and IG-11 and others, droids influence nearly every aspect of the Star Wars universe. However, no droid is as important to the story as R2-D2 and C-3PO. While Threepio played a large role in The Rise of Skywalker, Artoo saw his role in the sequel trilogy diminished. In this episode of Podcast Stardust, we are celebrating Artoo and his importance to the Star Wars galaxy.

On this episode, we discuss:

  • R2-D2 as the protagonist of the first act of Star Wars: A New Hope,
  • The humble introduction of Artoo in The Phantom Menace,
  • Whether R2 was playing along with Yoda in The Empire Strikes Back,
  • His role in the other Star Wars saga movies,
  • If it was a danger to leave his memory in tact after Revenge of the Sith, and
  • Other notable appearances by Artoo in The Clone Wars and some of the comics.
