From eager Sith apprentice to a vengeful wandering villain, we take a look at the motivation of Darth Maul throughout the Star Wars saga.
Darth Maul first emerged in The Phantom Menace with a single line of dialogue anticipating getting revenge on the Jedi. Although he appeared to die at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi, many years later, Maul would return in The Clone Wars and then Rebels. Maul took an apprentice of his own and later tried to take another. The former Sith apprentice lead a coup of Mandalore and built a criminal empire. This all begs the question: what did Maul hope to accomplish? What were his goals? In other words, what motivated Maul to do all the things he did in Star Wars? We examine this question in this episode of Podcast Stardust. Thanks for joining us!
In this fully armed and operational episode, we discuss:
- Maul’s motivation as Darth Sidious’s apprentice prior to The Phantom Menace,
- What Darth Maul learned from his various visits to Malachor,
- Who exactly Maul wanted revenge against and why as an apprentice,
- Whether Maul was truly motivated to rule,
- To what extent Maul desired revenge against Obi-Wan Kenobi, and
- Many other aspects from Maul’s history that speak to his motivations.
