Happy New Year 2017 from RetroZap!

by Joseph Tavano

Happy New Year 2017! It’s time to take stock of what we’ve done, and what’s to come this year.

Happy new year 2017! I sit here, in the very spot as I did last year, at the very time I did last year, to write a happy new year post in the same manner that I did last year.

2016: The Good

2016 was a huge year for RetroZap. We expanded beyond my wildest dreams, and currently have an unbelievably strong lineup of writers, columnists, artists and podcasters. I cannot thank these people enough for their energy, positivity, and all-around effort put in each and every day.

The site was also redesigned–twice–to make it blazing fast and to deliver better, more secure content via an SSL certificate. We’ve optimized to provide more images, better podcast players and much more.

Together, we made RetroZap something much more than I thought it could ever be: a community; a place where creators and readers could come together to talk and discuss pop culture, art, and so much more in a positive and welcoming environment. We didn’t talk about it much, and we didn’t spend a lot of time making proclamations–it just happened, and it is very special. So much so that today I am certain RetroZap could exist even without me one day (in the far flung future), and I had never considered that in the past. Nothing is more humbling and more profound than when something you created has become larger than yourself, and for that I am so, so grateful.

2016: The Bad

Not all was perfect and rosy about the year that was 2016. A lot of bad things happened in the world. People died. A lot of things left us shaking our heads, and we’ll probably spend the next year figuring most of it out. Knowing that RetroZap existed, not only as a place people could turn to for content that was spreading good in the world made the difference on many dark days.

And because of that, we will move forward. We will keep people thinking. We will challenge the status quo and we will ask “why?” And in doing so, we will endeavor to be the best site we possibly can be.

Happy New Year 2017: What’s Next

In 2017, RetroZap will continue to deliver the same high-quality features, columns, editorials, podcasts and art that we did in 2016. However, instead of expansion without end, we’re getting smarter than ever. More targeted. More insightful.

RetroZap aims to deliver a voice that’s loud and clear across all of pop culture to deliver ideas, commentary and analysis that is second to none.

Look for more topics–some that may surprise you, some you may never heard of. Look for more genres as pop culture takes a larger and larger emphasis in today’s world. We will be covering more of what you love, more of what you want, and more of what you haven’t heard of yet.

Also, for the first time ever, RetroZap will seek to cover news on a daily basis as we embark on a search for a news editor to add to the team.

Finally, a massive THANK YOU to every reader, every listener, every visitor, every guest, every friend, and every supporter who’s been there with RetroZap along the way.

Again, Happy New Year! Stay safe, be excellent to each other, and party on!
