Han Solo Film

Big news this week! Directors Christopher Miller and Phil Lord were let go from the untitled Star Wars Han Solo film. Apparently there was a lot of head-butting (“creative differences”) from day one between the directors and Lucasfilm leadership Kathleen Kennedy and Lawrence Kasdan. Read Lucasfilm’s official statement on the announcement here. And as of 6/22, the new director is none other than the acclaimed Ron Howard! Here is Lucasfilm’s announcement on the new director. Howard’s films include Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind (academy award winner for Best Film and Best Director in 2002), Frost/Nixon, The Da Vinci Code, and Rush. No other information on if there will be ‘reshoots’ or if Howard will just pick up where Lord and Miller left off. Lucasfilm does say filming will resume on July 10th. The untitled Han Solo standalone film is still scheduled for a May 25, 2018 release date.

Game of Thrones

Winter is here! With the new season of Game of Thrones fast approaching (July 16), fans got a treat this week with new posters and a brand new trailer! There is a total of 12 new character posters-check all of them out here.  Along with the posters, a new trailer dropped as well. And what a trailer! This season promises to be action-packed with plenty of fighting, intrigue, and dragons! July 16th seriously can’t come soon enough.

Blade Runner 2049

Exciting new behind-the-scenes Blade Runner 2049 footage, plus almost four minutes of the film, arrived this week! The visuals are stunning to say the least. The original film turns 35 this week, and what a way to celebrate it with great new footage. The behind-the-scenes clips are especially entertaining. Harrison Ford says of the new film, “I think it’s kind of fun to play a character 30 years later. I’m used to trying on old clothes. Happily they still fit.” Awesome. Blade Runner 2049 hits theaters October 6.

Watchmen

Director Damon Lindelof (The Leftovers) and HBO may be teaming up again, this time for a live-action Watchmen series. Based on the critically acclaimed DC comic book miniseries by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, Watchmen follows a set of crime fighters who are investigating the murder of one of the members of their group. The series was made into a film in 2009, and HBO even toyed with a live-action series back in 2014. This new venture will be independent from both the film and the previous 2014 ideas. No more information on the series has yet come to light.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Jurassic World 2 is now officially Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Announced on Twitter (@JurassicWorld), the film has a new title and tag line, “Life finds a way.” The tagline is an obvious homage to Jeff Goldbulm, who is reprising his role in the movie as Dr. Ian Malcolm. The film is scheduled for a June 22, 2018 release.
