ARGcast #123: Running and Gunning Through the Contra Franchise

by RetroZap Staff

Blast some aliens in classic fashion with David and Robert as they run ‘n gun their way through the action-packed Contra franchise!

All you need in life some times is to run to the right and blast everything in sight. At least that’s what we know makes the Contra franchise so great! David and Robert look back on all things Contra (from the good to the oh so bad), define what it means to be a Contra game, and what we would hope to see in a modern day revival. Plus we read responses from listeners like YOU!

Before spreadshotting our way to victory, we tackle a number of news items from this past week including the love letter to Castlevania in the upcoming Super Smash Bros Ultimate. There’s also some media news with updates on the Showtime Halo series and Metal Gear Solid movie, major cameos announcements for the current lineup of fighting games, a long lost South Park game for Game Boy Color that recently leaked, and what Sega has in store for the 30th anniversary of Altered Beast. Be sure to stick around the end of the show for the story on an Earthbound cartridge that was truly out of this world!

The Stage of History puts us in that Contra mood with Contra III: The Alien Wars and Contra: Hard Corps. Robert then reminds us of the download only Wii title Contra: ReBirth in Obscura. Don’t forget to also grab our game code giveaways for Evergarden and Pankapu!

We are partnered with Don’t Feed The Gamers! Be sure to check them out for fan-focused gaming content.
