Animaniacs S01E12 Garage Sale of the Century– West Side Pigeons

Episode 12-BG-1500-x-1000

Each and every week, your hosts revisit an episode of the series in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find! Each episode is given a “Water Tower Rating” by the hosts. How many water towers will this episode get? This twelfth episode features the Warners trying to get a good deal at the “Garage Sale of the Century”  and the Good Feathers in their musical “West Side Pigeons.”

Garage Sale of the Century

  • In our first cartoon, the Warners want to buy a new garage for their water tower so they go to a garage sale! (Makes sense!) They’re willing to spend up to 28 cents but unfortunately they’re trying to buy the garage from a grumpy bear (voiced by Ed Asner) who is more interested in selling people garbage while stealing their money. Listen to your hosts discuss this cute, but somewhat forgetable, segment.

West Side Pigeons

  • The second segment is one of the most famous segments of the show. For the second week in a row, we have a musical parody to discuss! This time the Animaniacs spoof “West Side Story” with “West Side Pigeons.” Squit the pigeon falls in love with Carloota the sparrow while the pigeons and sparrow fight over who has the right to perch on the head of a Martin Scorsese statue. What are the origins of the songs sung in this cartoon? What are the hosts’ favorite songs? Does Kelly feel feathery?
