As we reflect on two years of existence, I want to say thank you to the millions of readers who have joined us on this adventure!
Wow. I can’t believe we’re two years since I decided to start this crazy site. For a little bit about the story of how it started, check out my first-year anniversary post here. Year one had some crazy highs, but re-reading that post again, I had no idea what was coming. If year one could be summarized by one word, it’d probably be proof; proof we could exist, proof we could succeed, proof we were here to stay. If year two could be summarized by any word, it would undoubtedly be growth.
In the span of one year, the staff of RetroZap skyrocketed from less than a dozen to over triple that size. The podcast network expanded in Big-Bang-like proportions and continues to do so. And the social reach, the readership, and the listenership have become legion. We’ve come so far in just 24 months, and there is no way we’re slowing down now!
Let’s not forget about the successful site redesign this summer, paving the way for opportunities I could have never dreamed of on that gray October day in 2014.
So, what’s next?
RetroZap continues to expand into new and different categories. Year three will see amazing Star Wars coverage, but there’s always room for more. Star Wars has never and will never exist in a vacuum, and RetroZap will always be dedicated to a holistic view of culture from the lens of Star Wars fan. And, don’t forget–applications are still open for writers, artists, photographers, video producers, and podcasters. If you think you have what it takes to join our merry band of rebels, renegades and friends, head over to https://www.retrozap.com/join.
Thank You
First, thank you for reading. It’s amazing to have such a vibrant, exciting and thoughtful community of readers and supporters. We’ve made a lot of friends along the way, and I can’t express just how grateful I am for all of it.
Finally, a huge thank you to my entire staff. You are the reason this site is a success, and you’re all geniuses. I’m as much in awe of your talent and brilliance as I am proud of all the success you’ve achieved.
Onward to year three!

Joseph Tavano is the owner and editor in chief of RetroZap. Born just months before Luke found out who his father was, he has been fortunate to have had Star Wars in his life as long as he can remember. Growing up just outside of Boston, Massachusetts, he can remember substituting sticks for lightsabers and BMX bikes for speeders. He loves comics, retro games, vintage sci-fi paperbacks, and maps. Though an accomplished drummer, he doesn’t crave adventure (as much) any more, and prefers his old haunts north of Boston, Massachusetts, where he resides with his family. Buy him a glass of whiskey and he’ll return it in kind.
