Rogue One reshoots make everyone go crazy (for no reason, calm down), more of the film coming to Celebration Europe, and how The Force Awakens props are becoming real.

By Mike Audette //  Are you still worried about Rogue One reshoots? Read on to see why I’m not. At all.

Shock and awe gripped the Star Wars fandom this past week with rumors upon rumors of the demise of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The film is undergoing additional filming this summer, labelled reshoots in the entertainment world. Things begun to spiral with people claiming that “40% of the film needs to be re-shot,” “Disney executives saw a screening and hated what they saw,” and “the film is not enough of a Star Wars-style film.” With me, everyone. One, two, three… deep breaths. Forty percent of the film is not being re-shot, the only Disney execs to see any of the film are Bob Iger and Alan Horn, and the film’s “war movie” themes aren’t being hindered. Anthony Breznican over at EW has the low-down on the Rogue One reshoots and everything happening with the news on the film and if there is one person to trust in this case, it is Anthony. His sources are impeccably placed and verified.

The Rogue One reshoots happening this summer were indeed pre-planned, just like they were for The Force Awakens. The shooting is being done for scenes already completed to fit in more story and character development within the scenes themselves. If upwards of 40% of the film needed to be done over, it would have to be delayed from its December release in absolute certainty. That is not the case whatsoever. The Rogue One reshoots were originally scheduled for sometime this past spring, but were pushed back until the summer due to scheduling conflicts with the large ensemble cast’s previous scheduled work.

You can hear Joe and I’s discussion of the Rogue One reshoots and rumors on this week’s Brews & Blasters (prior to the publishing of the Breznican article)!

So everyone please, just take it easy, the sky isn’t falling.

More Rogue One will be coming soon to Star Wars Celebration Europe this July in London. Much like at last year’s Celebration Anaheim, there will be a walk-through room featuring costumes, props, and artwork from the upcoming film. I was not able to make it to the The Force Awakens feature room at Celebration last year but I’m sure all of the details about what’s inside will be revealed. For example, at the room last year at Celebration was concept artwork was shown with Anakin and Luke’s lightsaber hanging off of Finn’s belt. Obviously there was no context to the artwork since we had not seen the film yet, but I wonder what kind of things like that might be shown for the Rogue One exhibition room. Those of you lucky enough to attend in London will be in for a treat.

Speaking of props, this week news broke on the Star Wars Show that you can get your own replica props from The Force Awakens from the same exact studio that made the ones on screen in the film. Proshop studios is a full-service digital and physical asset production company located at Pinewood Studios. The shop was tasked with creating the props for the film such as the melted remains of Darth Vader’s helmet seen in Kylo Ren’s quarters. The studio, in collaboration with Lucasfilm, is now proud to be making official replicas of the film’s props for everyone to own (if your pocket runs that deep.) The line of props called Star Wars Collectibles: Ultimate Studio Edition, will feature different waves of prop releases containing limited quantities of exclusive items. The first containing replicas of FN-2187’s (aka Finn) First Order Stormtrooper helmet, Kylo Ren’s helmet, Poe Dameron’s X-wing helmet, Darth Vader’s melted helmet remains, Rey’s staff, Chewbacca’s famous Bowcaster, Kylo Ren’s Lightsaber hilt, and Rey’s Lightsaber hilt. The props are all embedded with a computer chip, the modern take on the certificate of authenticity, and shipped in a full size crate right out of Indiana Jones. You can check out the Proshop collectibles website for more information and purchasing details.
